A short ride southwest of the city of Barcelona lies a wine-making region with a very Mediterranean soul. Vineyards expand until they meet the sea in one of the most relevant Denominations of Origin in Spain, DO Penedès. Cradle to Catalan cava and home to beautiful wines touched by the salty ocean breeze, this region is surrounded by landmarks such as Montserrat or the artistical and laid-back fishing village of Sitges, as well as what once was the most important Roman city in the area: Tarragona. Within its borders lie some of the biggest producers of wine and cava in Spain, and also many tiny, family-owned, boutique wineries with a very rich background awaiting to be discovered by those who wish to go off the beaten track. Embark on a day trip in which you can choose between focusing only on cava, or also visiting Sitges or Tarragona to upgrade the experience.
