This is a late start half day tour. It is halfway through our Montserrat, Food and Wine and our Montserrat, Tapas and Wine in terms of duration. It gives you some extra time in the morning to rest, and also allows you to keep on doing things in the evening, since it won’t drop you off too late. You will receive less free time once in Montserrat than compared with our full day tour but, as common in our late start tours, you will be able to enjoy the ride up to the monastery from the cogwheel train that climbs Montserrat scenically from the foothill.
Did you spend the night eating tapas amongst wine glasses? If you are not that much of a morning person, this is one of our two late start Montserrat and Wine tours for you to make the most out of your day out of Barcelona. Because early birds don’t always catch the best worm, we have designed an appealing extended half day experience with some extras to add to our usual history and wine combo.
Always as part of our small groups, your English-speaking local guide will be with you throughout the day as you discover the wonderful scenery and history to be found in Montserrat Monastery and also the inspiring wine country surrounding the area. To approach the former, we have included a ride in the scenic cogwheel train climbing uphill from the foothill to the monastery. That will be only the beginning of your guided tour around the monastery premises followed, as usual in our tours, by some free time for you to wander and wonder around Montserrat on your own (1 hour approx.).
We like to combine the best historical highlights surrounding Barcelona with the most local wineries in the area, always run by local families with the richest background in terms of culture and tradition. That will be your second stop, where you will have the opportunity to visit the premises of the winery. Experience a visit to a historic winery set within a 10th-century castle, continuously owned by the same family for 36 generations. The winery has revived ancient local grape varieties, providing a unique glimpse into the region's heritage. Your Castlexperience guide will give you an introduction to the art of wine tasting while you enjoy three of their local wines and a selection of traditional tapas.
